Is the EVSE market promising ?
In an ecological context where going all electric is all the rage, it's interesting to consider the real economics of this market. State-subsidised electric and rechargeable hybrid vehicles are selling more and more every year. And diesel vehicles, which are gradually being banned from towns and cities, have a lot to do with it. The French car fleet is changing, but what about the IRVE market?
A growing market for rechargeable vehicles
The current fleet of rechargeable vehicles (electric and hybrid) is estimated at 1 million (source: Accelerating the transition to electric mobility - Avere-France ), out of a total fleet (private cars and light commercial vehicles) estimated at 40 million. The number of rechargeable cars sold is rising every year, and electric mobility will continue to be subsidised under the stimulus plan.
EV sales are expected to rise from 2% of total vehicle sales to 38% by 2040. In 2021, there were 800,000 plug-in vehicles on the road, representing an increase of 25% in 1 year. By 2040, the number of plug-in vehicles on the road is expected to reach 15 million. The increase in the number of rechargeable vehicles between 2022 and 2040 is therefore estimated at +1400%. The EV market is booming, and charging point installations will have to keep pace.
Increasing demand for IRVE
EVSE in a few figures
There are currently almost 70,000 public charging points in France, for a fleet of around 1 million rechargeable vehicles, which poses problems of availability for charging. Every rechargeable vehicle needs (at least) one charging point, whether at the workplace or in town, to ensure that charging is accessible to all.
To meet this demand, the number of charging points available in France will have to keep pace with the increase in the number of rechargeable vehicles. Our future fleet of 15 million rechargeable vehicles will therefore need at least 15 million charging points. The demand for charging points and IRVE cables will continue to grow, in a world where the use of electric vehicles is booming.

Installing charging points
Vehicle charging points must be installed by electricity professionals who are certified for IRVE installations. The market for these installations is already booming and will continue to do so for several years.
If you already have the certification, your profile or your company will be more competitive when it comes to responding to dedicated calls for tenders. Otherwise, certification is available through a number of training organisations.
Charging stations, which have been available on the French market since the early 2010s, have seen their technologies evolve over the years.
For example, the ISO 15-118 standard provides for enhanced communication between electric vehicles and IRVEs. Future smart charging stations will feature automatic vehicle recognition to optimise charging.
